Gerald Brown

Dear Friends and Club Members,

It is with immense sadness, that I have to inform you all of the death of our friend, Gerald Brown. He passed away on Wednesday morning.

The club wishes to extend our sincerest condolences to Lynne, Sophie and Hannah and of course the rest of Gerald’s family at this devastating news.

The overwhelming feeling that I have had, since the news broke last weekend that he had taken a turn for the worse ,from everyone around the club was not the loss of a Chairman and Committee Member but a very close friend. I have always had the deepest affection for Gerald and all that he stood for, but did not realise how respected he was by the whole club. He was, in short, a giant of a man and I am proud to have been able to call him my friend.

This is best summed up by a message I received on Monday from another close friend at the club “ Gerald is one of the nicest blokes I have ever had the pleasure in calling a friend”. A sentiment that I think we can all relate to.

I am sure you will all join me in the coming days to give whatever support we can to Lynne and the girls. It is not going to be a nice journey, but will hopefully be eased by everyone coming together and helping in anyway they can.

I am sure you will all have questions regarding the funeral arrangements and so on. We will of course keep you informed as and when we become aware of any of those arrangements.

In the interim, the club will be observing a one minute silence in tribute to Gerald prior to the home game on Saturday 21st July at approx 1.25pm. Please feel free to attend if you can. Otherwise, please take a few moments of reflection where ever you maybe to appreciate the life of our friend.

Don Brown
Acting Chairman
On behalf of the Executive Committee of Thornton Cleveleys Cricket Club.
