Chairman's Statement Feb 2019

15 Feb 2019 by Andy Brown

Dear member and friend of Thornton Cleveleys Cricket Club,

At the club’s AGM in December which I am pleased to say was well attended there was a significant change to the structure of the Executive Committee, as follows :
Chairman -Dave Rolinson
Vice Chairman -Robert Martin
Club Secretary -Roger Sackfield
Treasurer -Neil Currie
Bars Chairman -Brian Curwen
Cricket Chairman -Andy Lowe
Grounds Chairman -Oliver Vincent
Communications Officer -Andy Brown
Assistant Communications Officer -Danny Howard

It is my great privilege to assume the role carried out by Gerald Brown, a man who epitomised all that is good about cricket and how to go about matters ‘in the right way’. He is greatly missed.

I am acutely aware that some of these names may be faceless to some of you -I am currently working through a solution to this so that we can all be identified!

Since the AGM, we have been working behind the scenes to make some improvements and appropriate changes.

The junior indoor nets started at the new home of Cardinal Allen High School (Sundays 10-12) and significant improvements to junior coaching/recruitment are under way. Senior indoor nets commence at the same venue on Thursday 21st February (7-9pm) -and the bowling machine is stored at the school for our use.

Brian Curwen and I have had several meetings regarding bar supplies -changes are coming and we hope they will be well received. Once we have everything sorted, we intend to announce a members evening for you all to come down and see the changes for yourselves.

The club website was in need of a revamp -and I hope to be able to provide news on this quite soon.

As always, I look forward to spending the summer watching competitive cricket both at Illawalla and on away trips. This summer will be different -I will still be watching, but will feel a personal responsibility for all matters -on and off the field -because I want everything to run smoothly, and this will inevitably bring with it moments of anxiety/frustration/relief!

We are an amateur sporting club reliant on the goodwill of as many of our members as possible in all aspects. We will always be grateful for any hours given voluntarily -whether that be as coaches, umpires, bar staff, catering staff, driving our juniors, scorers, putting flags out. Please contact any committee member if you have something to offer.

The club continues to be available to hire for birthday parties/engagements/christenings/funerals. Please spread the word among your social circle.

Furthermore, we are reliant upon the continued generosity of our sponsors. We remain active in looking for new sponsors, from Match Ball Sponsors at £25 per game to advertising board sponsorship at £250+VAT. If any members can coerce their employers or extended family into this kind of support, this greatly assists the club -and takes significant pressure off the bar being our predominant fundraising avenue. Which may then lead to our bar prices being more customer-friendly!

I wish all our teams the very best in their on-field exploits this season, and look forward to maintaining the great friendships I have forged at TCCC. In this new role, I hope there are more friendships to be made -and that we can all work together in maintaining and improving our club.
